How can I prepare for my cake smash session?

Your baby’s cake smash is all about fun, laughter, and celebrating that first big milestone!

To help your little one feel comfortable, let them try a bit of cake or frosting before the session — sometimes they just need a little practice with sweet and sticky textures.

On the day, bring along their favourite toy or snack (we can even tuck small treats into the cake to encourage curious hands and smiles!). Don't forget a sippy cup and a spare outfit for both of you.

Every cake smash session ends with a warm bubble bath — I provide fresh towels and washcloths so your baby leaves the studio clean, warm, and happy.

What happens during a cake smash session?

Each session is relaxed, unhurried, and tailored to your baby's pace. We always start with clean milestone portraits, then move into the fun messy cake smash! Some babies dive straight in with both hands, while others prefer gentle encouragement with a wooden spoon — both make for adorable, authentic photos.

After the cake smash, we finish with a bubbly mini bath photoshoot for those sweet, splashy shots. You get to relax and enjoy the moment while I take care of all the clean-up!

What should my baby wear?

You are welcome to select from my curated collection of studio cake smash outfits or bring your own favourite pieces. I recommend something soft, simple, and comfortable that allows your baby to move and sit freely.

Quick parent tip: Bring a spare change of clothes for yourself too — buttercream frosting has a funny way of finding its way onto mum and dad!

When should I book my session?

Cake smash photography sessions book out quickly, so it’s best to secure your spot early — ideally when your baby is around 9–11 months old.

Most parents schedule the shoot 3–4 weeks prior to the actual birthday so the final edited gallery is ready in time for invitations, thank-you cards, and first birthday party displays.

When will I receive my images?

You’ll receive your fully edited online gallery within 14 days after your session. If you need selected photos earlier for party invitations or display prints, please mention it when booking so I can plan your editing timeline.

What if my baby is sick?

If your little one isn't feeling well, simply get in touch as soon as possible to reschedule. Babies don't enjoy photo sessions when under the weather, and we want a bright, happy baby so you receive the joyful photos you deserve!

Where are you located?

All cake smash and milestone sessions take place in my dedicated, warm, home-based photography studio in Point Cook, Victoria — just 25 minutes west of Melbourne’s CBD. The studio is conveniently located for families traveling from Werribee, Tarneit, Truganina, Williams Landing, Sanctuary Lakes, and Altona.

How does payment work?

A $100 deposit is required to secure your session date, with the remaining balance due on the day of your shoot. Flexible payment plans are also available to make spreading the cost of your session simple and easy.

Do you provide the cake?

Yes! A simple, beautifully styled vanilla smash cake is included in my standard cake smash packages. You are also very welcome to supply your own custom bakery cake if your baby has specific allergies, dietary requirements, or preferences.

Can siblings join in?

Absolutely! I love capturing family bonds and include sibling or parent portraits at the beginning of your session while everyone is clean and fresh. Just let me know ahead of time so I can prepare the setup.

Do you offer custom themes?

Yes! From Safari and Boho Rainbow to Teddy Bears, florals, and beyond — I love styling unique, bespoke sets tailored around your baby’s personality and favourite colors.
